Summer in the Okanagan, what more could you wish for?

Blame it all on the excitement of seeing a very large swarm of bees moving into an old plastic drum. I was 8 years old, no bee experience and no bee equipment, just pure fascination. Yes I got them into a wooden whisky box without being stung, but the bees all suffocated, the box was too small. This was the start of a lifelong, passionate relationship with the African Bee (Apis Mellifera Adansonii) and bees in general. There were many hectic days removing unwanted bee swarms from panic stricken households (Bee Removals Inc) together with the export of Queen Bees to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1957 and the resultant research exchanges with my good colleague Prof. Stort. Our aim was to breed the ideal bee. This challenge has resulted in our Victorian Queen Bee, which has responded very well to the beekeeping challenges of today. Developed in Victoria on quarantined Vancouver Island and now also available in the Okanagan Valley, Kelowna BC. As past President of the Capital Beekeepers Association and lecturing in apiculture it has been my pleasure to see many more people enjoying the fascinating life of the Honey Bee.

Kind Regards,
Vic Macdonald.
